An important skill in any great leader’s accomplishment lays in his ability to effectively lead from within. If a leader can only influence and is likable, he or she will have followers but these qualities alone cannot make that leader stand out from the crowd of like-minded people. There need to be a human dimension in it, a greater purpose, to make leadership sustainable. In other words, doing the right things to others, being persistent and honest with self and being oriented inside out will eventually produce greater impact. By simply mirroring giants that contributed long before our time, improving on their validated strategies and adding some new value twists to them, a leader can make a difference in today’s overly competitive world. Nobody can become a great leader by always playing it safe and being a follower. No one succeeds in life simply by following what others before him have built, developed, designed, managed etc. In life and business, time will come for leaders to show their real unique capabilities, what they are capable of. There must be a point of difference, something that leaders are proud to stand and fight for. Choosing the road less travelled is a lot harder pathway but pays off in the long run if actions are focused towards developing and benefiting others while growing capabilities, proficiency, courage on a personal level.
