5 Ways to Fail When Working at Home
Working from home has become a thriving alternative for those who want or even need to go home, but face it not everyone wants to succeed. There’s a lot of responsibility in a work at home job and you may not want to deal with the pressure.
So I want to pass along a few simple steps you can take to get back into the traditional workforce. You never did like spending time at home anyway, right?
Step 1 – Sleep In
Make this a daily event. After all you’re staying at home so why succumb to the pressure of work. All the talk of working in pajamas just makes me sleepy. The work can wait – you need your beauty sleep.
Step 2 – Watch TV
Television should be your friend. A remote control loaded with all the channels you can watch. Or if nothing suits you then just keep flipping through the channels until you need eye drops. Consider this research and development.
Step 3 – Make Your Computer A Crucial Link
No, not with business contacts, but those friends from high school you only remembered after they jogged your memory, and those forums where there’s constant argument and no real solutions. After all you deserve a social life – online.
Step 4 – Wait to Work Until Your Family Comes Home
This can give them the false impression that you’ve been very busy. You won’t have time for them because you realize you actually have work to do. This will put strain on your family relationships, but the end of your work at home experience may be in sight.
Step 5 – Always Work to Extend Deadlines
Clients love to have their needs unmet. They are anxious to see what new excuse you can come up with. They’re writing them down and fully expect to publish a book on the subject soon.
Tongue in cheek? Of course, but the common thread in a work at home job is discipline. Without it you would probably be better off working in the traditional workplace.
What often happens is a profound sense of relief to have freedom that it becomes very easy to allow independence to renegotiate life’s contract. Work doesn’t get done, but there’s always a good excuse. The problem with excuses in a work at home job is the more excuses the less the income.
Yes, you too could fail miserably in a work at home job, but if you were to reverse some of those tips you might be able to experience a different outcome.
Try this instead.
1. Define a standard wake up time. This sets the tone for your day and for helpful sleep patterns.
2. Watch TV – only as a treat. This means you might use television as a reward for accomplishing a definable task.
3. Use the computer to enhance your business objectives. There may be time for play as well, but try to use this as a tool for growing your enterprise.
4. Try to have your work done before your family comes home. This allows you more time to engage your family instead of missed work.
5. Always try to beat deadlines. Clients love to come back to someone who can deliver, and early is always better than late.
No one wants to see you fail. Now that you know how to do it try not to experience it.
