Asking for Advice

Do you listen to advice when it’s given to you? Do you ask for advice and only listen to certain parts of it? Who are you asking for advice? Is the person or people you are asking qualified to give you the answer that you need? These are all different questions that you should ask yourself if you are the type of person who likes to seek advice from other people.

Asking for advice is a true trademark of a person that wants to continue growing and evolving as a human being. No great successful person, in any area of life, has achieved success on their own. Many great people have had mentors and advisors that have held them make their decisions. You are the one that has to make the final decision for you and your life. You are the only one that knows what’s best for you.

Robert Kiyosaki as a famous quote and it goes as stated, “The worst advice you can get is free advice.”I believe there is a lot of intelligence behind this statement. While you should always keep things simple in life, I do believe there are certain people you should seek certain types of advice from. On the flipside, there are certain people you should not seek advice from that you probably are.

You want to go to people that have experience in the area of life you are seeking advice in. For example, you should not go to your grandmother, who was a nurse and mother of for 40 years, and ask her about legal advice. While she may have some assumptions, she probably does not know the facts about what you are asking. If something sounds fishy or dangerous to her, she is likely to give you advice to protect you. You may be in a business deal and not know what is legal and what is not in one area. Your grandmother, being the loving and caring woman that she is, may tell you something is wrong and illegal that is really not. She would be trying to protect her baby boy and giving advice based off of what she knows. She is not in the wrong in any way.

The point is, you should go directly to the source and find the correct advice. If you want to know something about legality, go to a lawyer. If you want to know something about health, go to a doctor or someone of that sort. If you want to know how to play football, go to a football camp or a football coach. If you want to know how to become a good husband or wife, you may seek advice from a counselor or someone at your church who has been married for a long time. Do not spend time asking people questions that are not truly qualified to give you answers. In the end, you will have done something counterproductive that might set you back or help you make an uninformed decision.
