Must-Knows Before Getting That Airbrushed Tan
Do you want that celebrity tan right on your skin? The good news is, no matter where you are or no matter what the season is, you can instantly have that fabulous olive skin tone and, yes, without spending hours under the sun. The system is called airbrush tanning. You can obtain this type of beauty service from the salon or from your dermatologist or even right at home.
If you’re convinced you’re up for this instant glow on your skin, remember these:
1. Exfoliate – This should be done a day before you are scheduled for your airbrush tanning. You can do this at home by using exfoliating body wash or with an over-the-counter exfoliating bath soap. Another old but effective method of exfoliating is using loofah for scrubbing your body and peeling off dead skin. And do not forget to moisturize right after to avoid irritation, rashes, and dryness.
2. Bare - On the day of getting that airbrush tan, skip your usual skin care regimen. Do not use moisturizer, perfume, body oil, or any other beauty chemical as any of these can prevent the tanning products from penetrating your skin and creating the best results.
3. Keep Dry – When you just had your airbrushed tan, avoid going to the beach or pool or taking a long shower at least until after 24 hours. However, if you have to go swimming, apply a generous amount of body lotion or body oil to help protect the color from the chlorinated water.
A sunless airbrush tan is a safe and effective way to achieve that healthy, golden glow on your skin. The procedure itself is approved by the American Academy of Dermatology. However, just like any other procedure, if it’s not done in the right way or if recommended precautions are not taken before, during and after undergoing an airbrush tanning session, you may not enjoy the best of that tan you’ve always wanted.
Also, remember that having a sunless tan does not necessarily protect you from the harmful UV rays of the sun so be sure to take along with you a bottle of sunblock when you go out each day and to re-apply whenever possible. Aside from the sunscreen, it is also best if you apply a liberal amount of body lotion every now and then to help prolong the tan on your skin. Avoid using alcohol, make-up remover and exfoliants on your skin as these chemicals can easily dissolve the tanning solution
