The Best Way to Learn German
What is the best way to learn German? Let me start by telling you the wrong way! You will never learn to speak German or hold a conversation if you focus on learning vocabulary or on learning verb rules. That doesn’t work, and perhaps that is why more than 85% of the people who set out to learn German fail at the task.
Are you one of those? Have you tried before and failed? Well, assuming you were motivated to begin with it was probably your approach which caused you to fail.
The best way to learn German, without a doubt, is also perhaps the most impractical method for most of us. But it is worth mentioning because we can learn from it. Moving to Germany, or a German-speaking community for four to six weeks and living the language essentially is the best way! But I already said that was not practical in most cases.
How did I do it? The answer is audio immersion using an online German course. There are two main reasons why this is the learning German method, and they are validated because of the remarkable correlation you achieve compared to actually moving to a German-speaking region.
Daily Practice: This is vital for reinforcement and retention of the German you are learning. It also rules out classes or tutors, no matter how good they are. If you don’t get daily structured practice you will fail, plain and simple!
If you think about it, what you are getting by moving to a German-speaking region is the same thing – daily practice! If doesn’t have to be a huge time investment – I spent an hour a day for about eight weeks using this method and I can hold a decent German conversation on a broad range of topics!
Guided Audio Immersion: While daily practice is very important, more important is what you are practicing! You absolutely need audio immersion in real German conversation. This gets you up to speed on German sentence structure. Less important, it helps with pronunciation. But the real reason most people fail is because they haven’t chosen the best way to learn German by getting audio immersion in a guided fashion to master sentence structure.
Because until you are thinking out your sentences as a German-speaker would, you will never master conversational German!
