The Right and Wrong Ways to Handle Stress
Stress is all around us, and is usually a big part of our daily lives. If you have a job, you’re probably concerned you will lose it. If you’re unemployed, the fear that you may not find a job is present. That and other problems can increase the pressure you feel with other aspects of your life. There are several things that can be done, and a few that shouldn’t be in the fight against this tension. Figuring out which is which is important, as some activities could make the situation worse.
Comfort Food: Most of us have a list of favorite foods that bring comfort when we eat them. Unfortunately, they are usually high in sugar, fat, cholesterol and sodium. While it may bring some temporary relief, these foods will only make the problem worse in the long term, and I don’t mean just because you’ll gain weight or feel guilty. Fat, salt and so on have a direct action when it comes to stress.
Exercise: This is one of the right things to do in reaction to the situation. Not only will it bring about short term benefits from the release of endorphins, it can also help us find solutions and improve our outlook on life. The part about getting into shape and dropping the love handles are actually a side effect in this area.
Get a Checkup: There are two reasons for this. One, of course, is that unknown underlying medical conditions can be part of the pressure you’re under. The other is that remaining in this situation for a long period of time can cause permanent damage to your body.
Giving In: Several negative emotions can rear their ugly heads in difficult times, and giving into them will only make matters worse. If you feel anger, anxiety, depression or experience suicidal thoughts, you need to get help, and at this point, only your doctor can give it. In the mean time, you’ll want to work hard at not letting these emotions rule your life or actions.
Ignoring It: If you’re under a lot of stress, you probably have a plate full of things to do and places to go. Ignoring the pressure your under seems by far the best choice, as it will only add to the “to do” list. This is a bad idea. Getting the help you need should be at the top of that list so you can have the ability to perform all the actions on it.
Talk to an Herbalist: We are trained in methods to help you overcome problems such as stress using natural means.
