White Russian Dwarf Hamster Care
Are you looking for information about the white Russian dwarf hamster and how amazing they are as pets? In this article you will discover the skills needed to properly care for them in your home. This particular creature is one of three other types of pets in the same family. The other siblings are the Campbell and Roborovski dwarf hamster. Although the rarest of this bunch they can still be found in many private breeding homes and stores.
The white Russian dwarf hamster is an incredible creature that can grow up to three to four inches and is much larger than its other siblings. They are sometimes referred to as pocket pets because you can easily place them inside of your pocket or any other small places. Their name comes from the fact that they will change color when the weather gets to a certain temperature and their entire body is all white. They normally are found with gray fur and a dorsal stripe that is easily identifiable on the back of these creatures.
Like most other species the white Russian dwarf hamster is actively only at night which is what makes them nocturnal. Even though they are most active during the night hours you may end up seeing them get up during the daytime running around inside of their cage. It is not uncommon to see them up during the daytime for only a few short minutes or hours. Normally once they tire themselves out they will immediately go right back to sleep and get the desired rest that they crave.
Placing the white Russian dwarf hamster in groups can be a great thing for them because they can be friendly and very sociable with other siblings. You should note that they can only be introduced to each other at very young ages in order to get used to each other. If you plan on placing them together when they are older they might end up fighting each other. This is something that you do not want to see one day when you wake up and find one of your pets lying there lifeless. At young ages you can even place them with different gendered species too.
When caring for one of these dwarf hamsters it is critical to allow them to stay inside of their new home. Getting them acquainted is an important factor in their life, but you also need to use the correct cage for these unique pets. A fish aquarium is always best because they will not be able to escape as they tend to with wire made cages. Some of them are wide enough that they can squeeze their little bodies through and take off running around your house. This will make for a very interesting day.
