Different Types of Mastiff Breeds
Mastiffs are breeds of dogs. There are so many different types of mastiff breeds that we can choose from if we want to have one. Below are the different types of mastiff breeds that you might want to know about:
Alpine Mastiff – this is now known to be an extinct Molosser breed of dog. It is the same as the Couchez which are the modern mastiffs today. These dogs have been bred since the early 1900’s. There are no pure alpine mastiffs these days. Some only have a percentage of the alpine breed in their ancestors.
American mastiff – this breed is generated jus 20 years ago by a dog breeder named Fredericka Wagner. The breeder crossed an English mastiff with the Anatolian mastiff. The result became what we call American mastiff today.
Anatolian mastiff - this breed came from Anatolia in Turkey. They are known as guardian dogs. People love to have these kinds of mastiff because they are very loyal to their owners.
Bullmastiff - this is known to be a very powerful dog. It is a breed between the Old English bulldog and the English mastiff. They are often use as guards to homes. It serves as a good family pet for its protective instinct. They also have a scary appearance which makes them look like real guards.
Cane Corso – this is a type of an Italian Molosser that is used for athletics. You can be familiar with this breed during animal sport competitions. Unlike the other mastiffs, these are more tamed and calm which makes them easier to train.
Cuban mastiff - this breed is generated in Cuba. It is another extinct dog breed. They are usually used in the ancient times as fighter dogs. They are known to be strong and stout.
English mastiff – this is a breed that comes from England. It usually has a broad body with a massive skull. English people have these dogs in their homes to serve as guards. They also make good pets for they are very loyal to their owners.
German mastiff – this is also known as the Great Dane dog. It appears like a Dalmatian due to its back and white spotted color. They are giant dogs although they are very charming and tamed. They are usually just pets at home but can also be a perfect guard dog.
Japanese mastiff – Japanese call it the Tosa dog. It is bred by the Japanese breeders. They are fighter dogs which are known to be stout and strong. Just like other mastiffs, they are also huge with a broad body.
Korean Mastiff – Koreans call this type of dog as the Dosa gae. They came from the European and Asian breeds. They were first introduced during the early 19th century where they used them as house guards.
