Healthy Alternatives
On Friday and Saturday my husband and I set up a booth at a vendor’s year round market to introduce a natural health herb to people passing by. It is ironic that we are the very first booth before entering the double doors into the main market area and right beside us through a set of doors, is a major drug store. We are appalled at the number of sick looking people who pass by our booth and do not even look in our direction. Many of them have very sad and dejected looks on their faces and we know they are dealing with major health issues. They come out of the drug store loaded down with prescription drugs, hoping upon hope, that this is the answer to getting them feeling better so they can get their lives back to normal.
My question is this, why do North Americans wait until they are confronted with illness before they try to do something to correct the situation? Never before has the health care system been so taxed financially as it is right now. Lack of funding and government money is causing a problematic decline in health care and many people cannot even get a doctor when they are ill.
We now know so much more about the human body and how to keep it healthy. Today there are so many alternative health care products on the market that boost the immune system, detoxify the body and provide antioxidants and nutrients to fine tune our bodies. In the Orient people go to the doctor, not to get cured but to find ways to keep their bodies healthy. It is called Preventative Health Care! In this country the need to do this is more urgent than ever before. Just take for instance the obesity problem among our young people. When we put our bodies under stress from over eating it causes us to have escalating health problems. It is estimated Childhood obesity increased from 5 percent in 1964 to about 13 percent in 1994. Today, it is about 20 percent – and rising.

Shortchanging America’s Health
A State-by-State Look at How Public Health Dollars Are Spent
A March 2010 report from the Trust for America’s Health (TFAH) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) found federal spending for public health has been flat for nearly five years, while states around the country cut nearly $392 million for public health programs in the past year. These cuts leave communities around the country struggling to deliver basic disease prevention and emergency health preparedness services.
So how does one learn to live healthier? With the increase of toxic chemicals in everything we eat from fresh, frozen and canned foods many people just decide to live life and take their chances that their constitution is strong enough to combat any negative consequences that may develop from an unbalanced diet. This is not a good option and we need to carefully analyze what we can do to become healthier and stay that way.

The Chinese herb Ganoderma Lucidum (Red Reishi) has been scientifically researched as a normalizing substance – a nutritional supplement that can yield medical benefits through its normalization and regulation of the body’s organs and functions. The role of Red Reishi in maintaining a healthy lifestyle can best be explained through the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) point of view because none of the known active components taken alone is as more effective than the consumption of Reishi itself. Whereas Western medicine focuses on the “cure” after the disease has already occurred, TCM, established through over 2,000 years of human observation, focuses on disease prevention by sustaining the right balance within the body through proper nutrition, exercise, and meditation. Reishi is an important adaptogenic herb in TCM in helping the body maintain this balance and also restore the balance when one is sick.
