How To Leave Your Stress At Work
Can’t focus on your favorite TV show because you’re thinking over what someone said at the office today? Find yourself ignoring your partner at dinner because you’re running over the things that have to be done tomorrow? While it’s great to be dedicated to your job, letting it take over your life is a problem. Without a good work-life balance, you can become overstressed, and this can lead to burnout and depression. We have checked out some Internet guides for work-life balance fixes, developed a list of common tips to overcome this matter.
How to Reduce Work Stress
- GET YOUR PRIORITIES CLEAR. Write down the 10 most important things you want from your life. Then think about how you spend your typical week. This helps you recognize that if you spend most of your time at work, you won’t have time to achieve other goals – like quality time with loved ones.
- FILL UP YOUR FUN LIFE. If you spend 8 hours a day at works, plus 2 hours commuting, it’s no surprise that all you have to discuss at the end of a day is work! So edge in some non-work elements into your day. Make lunchtime “your time” by getting your brain out of work gear. Make a break between work and home by stopping off somewhere at the end of the working day and doing something different.
- PLAY YOUR FUN. Make a date for at least 2 nights a week to have fun. It doesn’t need to be an expensive night out. Consider a DVD marathon or game of Monopoly. If you like to cook, get together with some friends and have an afternoon when you cook something special. Plan once a month to do something different like visiting the museum or having a picnic.
- STOP FEELING GUILTY. When the focus is on work, we feel guilty when we take time out for ourselves. Don’t. There is no sin in enjoying life!
- SWITCH OFF YOUR PHONE AND HOME PC. Don’t let work intrude into your personal time. If you need to answer emails at home, set a deadline, say 8pm. After that, switch off the gadgets or put them on silent mode.
- LEARN HOW TO DE-STRESS. When your mind won’t shut off about work, try one of the following:
- Sweat away stress by exercising: Even 10 minutes of bending and stretching in your living room helps.
- Meditate: Dim the lights, play something soothing like sea sounds, close your eyes and imagine a scenic beach, or whatever makes you happy. Breathe evenly and deeply.
- Sing and dance: Play your favorite tunes, dance at home and sing out loud.
