Improve Your Eyesight With These Simple Computer Eyestrain Exercises
Computers are a major part of our lives and they are here to stay. I can’t even imagine life without one, can you? Unfortunately, this tool has its downsides, too, like computer eyestrain for one. In this article you will find some simple computer eyestrain exercises that will help you significantly improve your eyesight.
It is easy to figure out if you are suffering from computer eyestrain. Do you notice that sometimes you have to squint at the computer screen to be able to see the fonts more clearly? Do you experience dry and itchy eyes when working on the computer? Do have frequent headaches after a few hours of computer work? If you answered “Yes” to any of the questions above then you are most certainly experiencing computer eyestrain.
If you have these symptoms, you should not take them for granted. Know that computer eyestrain can largely contribute to the fast deterioration of your eyesight. The good news is you can reverse this condition and improve your eyesight with just a few simple eye exercises done daily.
The most common reason why we suffer from computer eyestrain is because our eyes are required to focus on the screen for long hours. In addition, our eyes tend to exert a lot of effort in reading small fonts, which contributes to eyestrain. With these exercises, you will be able to relax the eye muscles and help improve the ability of your eyes to focus at different ranges.
Eye Relaxation Exercise
When you feel that your eyes are getting tired, take a 5 minute break from your computer. Vigorously rub your hands together to generate heat. Then gently cover your eyes with your palms. Make sure that your hands are in a cupped position so as not to put unnecessary pressure on your eyes. Relax your mind, breathe deeply, and stay in this position for 3 minutes.
Eye Flexibility Exercise
Position your thumb 6 inches away from your eyes. Focus on your thumb for 10 seconds and take deep breaths. Then, shift your focus on the wall furthest away from you for 10 seconds. Repeat this exercise 5 times and don’t forget to breathe deeply throughout the process. This exercise requires very little effort and it can be done anywhere. Do it at least once a day for your eyes sake.
Eye Muscle Building Exercise
Your eye muscles need toning just as much as any muscle group of your body. This kind of exercise is also a very effective way to relieve eyestrain. When you feel your eyes are getting tired, shut them gently for 10 seconds. Now open your eyes and focus on the wall in front of you and fluidly move your eyes around your office clockwise. When your focus reaches the wall in front of you, reverse the direction of your eyes counter clockwise. Do this exercise for 3 minutes.
Aside from eye exercises, it is highly advisable to give your eyes some rest in the duration of the day, especially if they show signs of eyestrain. I for one admit, I’d be lost without a computer, but I know can do without it for at least 5 minutes every hour. If you are like a lot of us who work on the computer for long hours, remember to give your eyes a break. Stand up, walk around the office and stretch for a few minutes. Go get yourself a glass of water or cup of coffee. Rule of thumb is in order for you to improve your eyesight, you have to tear yourself away from your computer at least once every hour.
