Lasik Overview
Lasik is a recognized name all over world now. It is a specific type of eye surgery. It is normally done to cure myopia or nearsightedness. Lasik is the abbreviation of laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis. In this surgery the shape of the cornea gets changed permanently. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes per eye to perform and normally it does not cause pain to the patient.
Just like any other procedure Lasik also has its own sets of advantages and disadvantages.
As advantages we can say Lasik is able to cure the various types of myopia totally and it can also cure hyperopia or farsightedness and also astigmatism.
As the whole procedure is computer guided it is very accurate and effective. In most of the cases one surgery is enough to cure the problem but in some cases though, another surgery can be needed and that
surgery can take place quite a long time after the first one.

So in short we can say that Lasik is an accurate, very effective, short, hazardless and almost painless solution for eye problems.
But everything has their cons at the side of their pros. Lasik also has some disadvantages. They are-

Though Lasik improves the sight in people it can affect various aspects of sight like the night vision. The night vision can be affected with symptoms like glares and halos around things.
Sometimes Lasik can cause problems like dry eyes.
In some cases which are very unusual and rare Lasik can deteriorate the vision of the patient and sometimes that cannot be corrected with the use of spectacles or contact lenses.
So before opting for a Lasik session one should check a few things for their own benefit. Those things are-

To be sure that one is eligible for the surgery some things must be looked up like, the stability of the vision, career issues, any other eye disease or disease, age, dry eyes problem are there or not, any previous surgery on the eye, the size, shape and thickness of the cornea and also the size of the pupil.
One must also keep in mind the possible risks related to the surgery like over or under correction, the need of wearing specs or lenses afterwards, dry eyes worsening, and losing sight too.
To achieve a certainty in the surgery one must choose a good surgeon based on his/her experience, reputation, availability, familiarity with new age technology.
