Internet Explorer Parental Controls
The Internet has revolutionized the way we deal with things around us. Unfortunately, along with it comes a mammoth of problems, particularly for parents who fear for their kid’s safety online. Internet parental control is the answer, and we’re going to discuss it in this article.
You can’t blame your kids or the Internet for these arising problems. There are just ruthless people out there who want to get rich, unmindful on what they do no matter how evil they’ve become. In the course of their businesses, kids become the collateral damage. As a parent, you want to protect them as much as you can, that’s why you need internet parental control.
There’s a lot of variance when it comes to internet parental control software. You shouldn’t worry on that too much, because they are neither hard to set up nor expensive to buy. Most of them offer free trial periods, giving you enough time to assess if it works in your end or not.
Internet Explorer Parental Controls
If you’re using Windows Internet Explorer, you can use the built-in parental control services right away! To do that, just go to the “Tools,” “Internet Options,” and from there, find the “Content” tab and “Parental Controls.” It will ask for your kid’s login account, and you can set it from there, pretty much easily.
You can control what time your kids can go online, how much time they are allowed to be online, what programs or website they are allowed to use or visit. Internet Explorer’s content protection is your first line of defense.
Firefox Parental Controls
For Firefox users, you need to install additional Add-ons for parental controls, content filtering or pornography blocking. Firefox doesn’t have an out of the box solution for this. However, that doesn’t mean that getting some form of protection is difficult. Just hover on to the Add-on link, search for a decent protection program and install. A lot of these add-ons are still free.
If you’re using AOL, parental controls are accessible too. As a parent, you have a wide array of protection options, customizations are extremely easy or better yet choose the preset options based on your kid’s age range. This is helpful especially if you’re not that adept in computers.
Most internet parental control software relies on the website’s ratings. Independent rating groups and web users maintain these ratings to safeguard online users. In the case of Internet Explorer, you can use these ratings to block porn related or gore sites or a more direct approach that is to block individual websites deliberately. Keep in mind that ratings are not 100% perfect. You may be blocking a “safe” website or allowing a newly created porn site that apparently has no ratings yet.
As parents, we cannot deny the fact that children are getting smarter in using the internet, even smarter than us. In my experience, using these built-in parental controls are not enough to ensure the internet safety of our kids especially from the harmful materials like porn that are easily accessible online.
