6 Top Tips for Finding a New Career
Wines and careers can be used as a very good comparison with one another. You do not know which wine is for you until you have had a taste of all the wrong ones. Most would say that comparing wine to your career is very random, but I cannot think of a better comparison.
As an avid wine drinker, it took me years of tasting awful wines to find the one perfect Rose. The first time I tasted wine I was inexperienced and did not know how to really grade wine according to my taste. It took a lot of wine tasting and some drunken nights to find the perfect one. So how is this different from your career you ask…
When starting your career fresh from varsity, college or even lounging in your home, you are inexperienced and do not know what you want as a young professional. You may have an idea of what you would like to do but that idea, more often than not, is far from reality. There are many reasons for the differences in the idea and reality, but the solution always remains the same.
When searching for a new job remember these pearls of wisdom:
Always aim for a job that provides what you are lacking in your current job.
Do not be afraid to let the recruiters know how much you are worth.
If you are inexperienced take any job; you will be shocked to find out that the worst jobs provide the best experiences.
Never let a company know they have you forever. Keep them guessing and let them know you have options.
Give your company a reason for them to keep you. Find a gap in your company’s processing and fill that gap.
Never stop learning; if you feel that you are no longer learning anything new then it is time you search for a new job.
Try and sharpen your skills or learn new ones to make you a better competitor in the job world
Always keep your cv up to date, you never know when you need to whip it out to a recruiter.
These are just a few things that I have picked up in my short years of employment which I wish I had known before I joined the work force. You will eventually find the one.
Until next time remember your dream job awaits you.
