Traveling This Summer and the Tips to Make it Safe
When you head out on your road trip you’ll want to make sure the summer driving season brings maximum enjoyment and minimum stress. Wait a second to look at the travel tips below.
Do not pull out of the garage if the tires have not been switched from winter to summer ones. The standard tire loses an estimated one pound of air pressure a month so never leave without checking your tires first. Avoid tread separation and blowouts on the road by inflating the tires properly to allow the best tire to road contact.
Make sure all fluids are working fine. Never leave without first checking the oil. The car owner manual lists oil recommendations by the manufacturer. With the hood open look at the coolant antifreeze mix inside the radiator. Once the 50 to 50 ideal coolant to water ratio is attained then you have optimal thermal regulation that works in both warm and cool climate.
Look through the entire car one more time. Ask a mechanic to inspect the hoses and belts before taking the trip. Check how efficient your current wiper blades are and make the necessary changes if called for. The battery is the last to check and with a four year old battery it is due for checkup and testing at a reliable automotive repair shop.
Have an emergency kit handy in the car. Keep clothes free of tire change dirt by covering them with a spare blanket and bring along emergency gear particularly first aid kits and flashlights plus some jumper cables and flares. Also pack extra clothes and gloves, paper towels, extra washer fluid, non perishable food and jug of water and basic tools like wrenches, hatchet, socket set, screwdrivers and pliers.
Many are guilty of stuffing the car with almost all the house contents when preparing for a road trip. Bring only what is essential and nothing more. Shampoo will be provided at the hotel so why bring some along? Washing machines are available at your travel destination so taking 14 pairs of shorts is really too much.
Once you have decided what to bring, do not pack items so high that they completely block your outward vision. Evening out the load is suggested but for stuff in pickups it would be best to have the heaviest ones located in the middle to minimize problems when unloading.
Drowsy driving contributes considerably to current road mishap statistics. Make absolutely sure you get a good night’s rest before spending a long time behind the wheel. The caffeine in coffee energizes you for a while but it soon goes away leaving you almost sluggish. Make periodic stops while driving and have someone drive for a while so you can rest. Small bladders mean more frequent restroom stops which actually contributes to lowering the freeway fatigue risk.
Interstate accidents come about usually because someone on the road finally had it with the sleep deprivation and the yelling kids plus the exhaustion. Exercise patience it will be worth it. No one likes a road hog so do not be one and just let that speeder pass you plus do not tailgate. If we all can just learn to get along, the road can be an awfully fun place to spend time on. If you keep these travel tips in mind, you are well on your way to a relaxing and enjoyable summer road trip season.
